Our History

First National Bank of Menasha was established in 1887 by a group of local entrepreneurs that included Richard Chauncey Russell, C.R. Smith, George A. Whiting and Andrew J. Webster. Combining their resources and ideas, they created the foundation for the current First National Bank ~ Fox Valley.

The land for the original building was purchased on the public square in Menasha in June of 1887. Upon completion, the bank (shown to the right) immediately became one of the landmarks in downtown Menasha.

Steady Growth

Growth was slow but steady at the bank. In August of 1887, total assets (resources) were just under $120,000. Twenty-five years later, on July 1, 1912, total assets had grown to just under $813,000.

At the fifty year anniversary of the bank; June 30, 1937, total assets had grown to $2.13 million. The fifty year “Record of Progress” was published in the Menasha Record to commemorate the achievement.

Security and Dependability

Some things never change; people are always looking for a secure place for depositing their funds that will provide a solid return for their investment. From the start the bank provided investors security as well as a good return and we’re proud of that. In an ad published in the 1910 Menasha Record, readers were advised that if they put their money with the bank, they would receive more interest than a government bond.

Even today our deposit rates remain strong especially compared to local competition and government bonds.

A Community Fixture

Our country has survived two world wars, and experienced significant swings in the economy. Through it all First National Bank ~ Fox Valley, has remained a fixture in the community, while evolving to meet the changing needs of our customers. As the bank grew from one to four full service branches, the name was changed to reflect our increased presence in the Fox Valley.

Upfront Banking

There are undoubtedly differences from when we opened in 1887; where there was once a horse and buggy traveling down the dirt roads of Menasha, there now are cars and trucks on paved roads in the Fox Valley.
